A few examples of artifacts discovered at Troy
as reproduced in
TROY AND ITS REMAINS
by
Heinrich Schliemann
The following illustrations depict objects, mostly spindle whorls, found at the site of ancient Troy by Schliemann during his excavations in the 1870's. The symbols include swastikas, stags, trees, anthropomorphic figures with upraised arms, ladders, dew drops, rivers, meanders, crosses, Maltese crosses, and others. For a recent (1995) scholarly analysis of the symbols on the Trojan spindle whorls, see this article in Studia Troica. For a recent breakthrough in the understanding of this set of symbols as representations of the ancient Tree of Life cult, see this book. The illustrations below are shown at low resolution in order to reduce downloading time, but they will provide an idea of the range of symbols found at Troy.
